What does it take to be a top business leader?

To be a successful Cheshire entrepreneur takes more than having a great business idea and setting up a company to deliver it.

Unless it is a one-person business, a company needs a talented team passionate about the business. With this in mind, I’m taking a look at what it takes to lead a team so that they all make the maximum contribution to the success of the company?

A top business leader encourages innovation and continuous staff improvement. They listen to what team members have to say and respects all views.

A good leader will empower and trust their employees, knowing when to delegate tasks. When staff are asked to do something, a leader makes sure that they understand exactly what is expected of them, and the purpose of the task.

A leader encourages collaboration and trust between colleagues rather than fierce competition. Social events and team building exercises increase team cohesion.

Good leader will likely appreciate and reward staff for outstanding work. Rewards are not limited to bonuses or pay rises, but can include treats like weekend spa breaks or dinner at a top local restaurant. Similarly, employees should be encouraged to improve their skills and broaden their knowledge.

A good leader leads by example and delivers on promises. Their words are followed by effective actions.
